Anthony Horowitz in conversation with Paul Blezard

When a guest of ours is master of so many forms of writing there’s a great deal to talk about, and Anthony Horowitz is a wonderful communicator. From Alex Rider in print and on the big screen, through channelling Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Ian Fleming, to how and why his wife built a motorway, Anthony leaves no stone unturned. At the heart of all he does is his profound and abiding joy in creating great stories. We have talked to Anthony twice on Lockdown LitFest, first on his adult writing, and most recently on his Young Adult writing.

Anthony Horowitz on his Young Adult fiction

This charming event focuses on his Young Adult writing, his love of espionage and thrills through his superb Alex Rider series, and his boyish excitement that Alex is now firmly established on the small screen around the world.

It’s always a joy to see an author speak passionately about their work, and to hear what drives them to spend lonely hours staring at a blank screen or page. Anthony is generously honest about explaining why he does it.

Anthony Horowitz on Adult Fiction

In this fascinating conversation Anthony talks about what drives him to keep innovating and to push his imagination and writing, reveals how he conceived Magpie Murders (published in 2016) as a book within a book, a dark take on the vintage crime novel with a delicious and fiendish modern twist. He also hints at a forthcoming follow up novel, Mayflower Murders, which we’re very excited about….
