Simeon Courite with Paul Blezard

Broadcaster, voice artist and Lockdown LitFest host Simeon Courtie interviewed illustrator and author Curtis Jobling. This week Sim takes the guest’s chair, from his lockdown bunker south of Banbury, Oxfordshire, telling Paul Blezard about his own writing career. He discusses his comedy travel memoir, The Long and Whining Road, which documented the year he spent driving a camper van round the world with his wife and three daughters, busking Beatles songs for UNICEF. And he reads from All Hollow, his horror thriller set in the secret tunnels in the Rock of Gibraltar.

Curtis Jobling with Simeon Courtie

Previously on Lockdown LitFest, multi-talented Festival favourite Curtis Jobling took us through his artist’s journey. This week, from his bespoke writer’s den in Cheshire, he talks to author and broadcaster Simeon Courtie about writing for page and screen. Curtis traces his journey from art-school uber-nerd to bestselling author of epic Young Adult fantasy novels, showing us that creativity is compatible with the passionate embrace of influence, from genre tropes to the local legends of the British Isles.
